Make a list, and check it twice! Take inventory of all the things you need to take care of before, during, and after the move.

Donating to Charity can be a great way to declutter, and manage what you will be taking to your new home.

Planning a move can be overwhelming, but with the right checklist, you can make sure everything goes smoothly. These are the top ten items Champs recommends considering before your move:

1. Create a Budget and timeline.

2. Research potential moving companies, and reserve a time with a reputable and reliable service.

3. Take an inventory of your belongings, and make an effort to get rid of accumulated things that you no longer need. Hosting a garage sale, or donating to charity can be a great way to declutter and organize the items that you will be taking to your new home.

4. Start packing your belongings ahead of time. Its easy to underestimate how much you have stored in the nooks and crannies of your home. Getting a jump start on packing is a great way to prepare for how much time you'll need to properly box up all of your stuff.

5. Clearly label boxes with room names and contents. This can be a great stress reliever and time saver once moved in to your new house. We recommend using colored labels or stickers to make boxes easily identifiable when moving in.

6. Make arrangements for utilities and internet to be transferred to your new location.

7. Notify important contacts of the change in your new location, and let the post office know as well.

8. Make arrangements for pet and child care if necessary for the move day.

9. Taking final meter readings: Before leaving your old home, remember to take final meter readings for utilities such as electricity, gas, and water. This will help ensure accurate billing and prevent any disputes.

10. Updating address with important parties: People often forget to update their address with important parties such as banks, credit card companies, insurance providers, and government agencies. This can lead to missed bills, important documents being sent to the wrong address, or delays in receiving important information.
